Fresh start

Journal Entry: Mon Jul 23, 2007, 6:45 AM
Right ... I've written the first part of what might be considered a novel, but as you might notice at the beginning of every chapter, it's called a story AND a concept ... for somthing else. I'm not calling this a writer's block, but in order for me to continue, I have to do somthing completely different from narrative writing. More updates to the Tower's story will come after I lay down some serious groundwork design. I don't know how long this will take, but the first Part of my story gives me a platform, a concrete basis to start from. In order for me to progress I need to establish a framework ... for the continuity of the story, certain story elements and the very nature of the gem I'm trying to craft. I've just mined up a large stone, but in order for me to cut it into a faceted gemstone, I have to know where to make the cuts.

This will not be easy, I've recently tried to do this once recently and failed miserably, however, the lessons I learned from that first attempt give me a better idea of how to approach this new mess.

This is somthing that is completely different from my writing style. I write by the seat of my pants, keeping a general idea of how the major plot is going in my head, while working out the details as they come, paragraph by paragraph. (the devided and titled sections in each Chapter of the Tower are as much for my benefit in writing as it is for the reader).

As much as I'm dying for new readers of my work to give feedback on my writing style (This is honestly my first real attempt at fiction), I know I can't force or cajole anybody into giving it. I will say this, any comment, critisim, idea or other input comes greatly appriciated. I have some personal goals for things I want to explore, goals that may or may not intrest or involve a reading audience, but if I'm not entertaining my readers, the end point of all of this isn't being accomplished.

I'm writing the kind of story I would enjoy reading, obviously, I can't please everyone, but I know that there are sci-fi lovers out there who would find this interesting, and the end result even more interesting.

I wrote Part one in less than two weeks, which is a blind rush ... I know it's not perfect, I've cleaned up and revised a bit, but I know there are some grammatical problems still lurking in there somewhere. In essence, the writings on my page are still effectively in 'draft' stage ... a platform for me to jump off to.

If you like what I've written, and are interesting to see where this goes, by all means, hang in there, I'm just getting warmed up, but it may be a bit before I actually start writing Part 2, for the reasons I've explained above. If it was just a story I was trying to write, I would probably be able to get away by my 'seat of the pants' method of writing. But in addition of entertainment, I'm also looking for a certain structure and continuity. Please be patient, more is coming.

It begins ... the sound of thick soles hitting wet earth, the rumble of bogey wheels. The tides have changed ...
